Natural next step...

Space and cyber are distinct domains that, given our current model of domain specific services, warrant their own forces. The one which really has yet to come into its own is cyber which the Air Force kinda glommed onto as they have traditionally been the most technologically centric of all the services.

I don’t really have any in depth knowledge of our cyber forces and capabilities but I haven’t exactly been impressed so far. Our computer systems work for shit, you would think that they could at least work out the basics. In my opportunities to talk with various people going into the cyber field I am not particularly impressed... I grew up building model planes, learning everything about them and dreaming to fly. For better or for worse I did it. Start talking with these kids and they have never even heard of 2600 and, at best, have only heard of 4chan. On the other hand the NSA folks have seemed pretty astute about things, but they aren’t a “service” like the various military branches. There are likely cultural differences between the “hacker” types and the institutionalized nature of the services that would need to figured out. But if we can have all the gay/trans bullshit shoved up our asses by DoD then I don’t see why they couldn’t at least figure out how to get things worked out for a bunch of geeks that can actually bring something to the fight.

Just my two cents...
